Understanding Contributor Roles and Credits
Contributor credits ensure that everyone involved in creating your music receives proper recognition. Adding accurate roles helps streaming platforms display credits correctly and may be required for distribution to certain services.
Why are contributor roles important?
Adding contributor roles:
Gives proper credit to everyone involved in the release.
Helps meet the requirements of digital streaming platforms.
Improves the accuracy of metadata.
Reduces the chances of your release being delayed during review.
Required Contributor Roles
To distribute a release through Interfine Music, you should provide the following information where applicable:
1. Primary Artist (Required)
The main artist or group performing the release.
Example:
Jon Doe
2. Composer (Required)
The person who wrote the music.
3. Lyricist (Required for songs with lyrics)
The person who wrote the lyrics.
Note: Instrumental tracks do not require a lyricist.
4. Producer (Required)
The person responsible for overseeing and producing the recording.
Performance Roles
At least one performer should be credited for every track. Common performance roles include:
Vocals
Guitar
Piano
Drums
Bass Guitar
Keyboard
Percussion
Rap
Orchestra
Choir
Conductor
Remixer (for remix releases)
These roles identify who performed on the recording.
Optional Contributor Roles
You can also credit additional contributors, such as:
Featured Artist
Arranger
Co-Producer
Mixing Engineer
Mastering Engineer
Recording Engineer
Graphic Designer
Publisher
While these roles are optional, they help provide complete and accurate credits for your release.
Best Practices
To avoid distribution issues:
Use each contributor's correct name.
Assign only roles that accurately reflect each person's contribution.
Do not list the same person as both Primary Artist and Featured Artist on the same track.
Ensure all contributor information is accurate before submitting your release.
